JNU Holi: A pictorial documentation (2009)

JNU HoliHello there! 🙂

Welcome to the JNU Holi blog.

This blog is a pictorial documentation of the JNU Holi (11 March 2009).

I always used to lock myself in the room on Holi day but this Holi I thought enough was enough. So I ventured out with my camera and clicked some 450 pics (and few vids).

This documentation is not exhaustive; I have missed many places (and probably aspects too) in JNU. It does give a great glimpse of the Holi in JNU which is unique in more ways than one, just the same.

The following  is a rough scheme of JNU Holi:

  1. Chaat Sammelan in the night before the Holi
  2. Breakfast with Bhang on Holi day
  3. After celebrating Holi in their respective hostels, the JNUites assemble in the Jhelum/Ganga lawns.

JNU Holi (Jhelum Lawns)I have missed some hostels because I could not visit them thanks to lack of time and resources. Please note that Tapti Holi or Chandrabhaga Holi are not strict terms and I mean the place more than the residents. When I write Tapti Holi, I only mean that I captured pics in the Tapti Hostel.

If you are running short of time, you may consider only the Mahi-Mandavi MUD Holi, Jhelum Lawns, Babas/Sahdus, Fi-rang Holi (foreigners).

Please leave your comments by filling the form at the end of each page. I’ll reply to all comments of course. 😀

jnu-holiAll pics are highly compressed for easy uploading (which also compromises the quality). Besides, it is not advisable to put up high-resolution personal images on the internet. I am an amateur photographer and these pics are lacking in more ways than one.

Because they are all pics, the pages may take some time in loading depending on your internet connection. There are three vids too of one minute duration each.

If any of you want to contribute any article on JNU Holi, feel free to submit it and It will be published here. You can also email me at blog(dot)vikas(at)gmail(dot)com. Please tell your friends about this blog and also my JNU caves blog.

I am Vikas, a JNU student (Sabarmati Hostel) and I made this blog in some  JNU Holi, Jhelum Lawnsten hours for creative satisfaction, fun and to document an important aspect of JNU life. If you like it (or like me) please visit my personal blog. Click here. You may also visit my JNU Caves blog. This is a free blog hosted on WordPress. 😀 Thank you. 😀

This is a personal endeavour and has no relation to the JNU administration.  Thank you.

    Hey Indyeah! Thanks.

    You are missing your college days while I am dying to get out of JNU! Get a job, marry and the like. I guess the sound of drum is pleasant but only from a distance!

    Thanks dude…you made me nostalgic 🙂
    I am again missing my college. Btw have visited JNU a number of times…and I must say, almost no college can match the feel and ambience of JNU’s campus.
    And the header image is just awesome man…Holi really rocks in JNU. Wow!! Nice work done…really nice.

    @Vikas
    Thanks so much for sharing the link to your blog with me. The pictures are terrific and even though I don’t know what exactly is going on or why it looks like everyone is having a great time. Happy Holi! 🙂

      Hey timethief, thanks so much!

      It is the festival of colours! On this day everyone colours everyone! 😀 It is arguably the most popular festival of Hindus. This is Holi as in my campus (even the foreigners enjoy it so much). And, I am going river-rafting today for some days!

    @Vikas,
    Thank you dear friend for sharing this url with me and extending an invitation to visit your blog. The photos are terrific and it seems as if everyone in them is having a sensational time wherein good will and fellowship prevail. Although I know next to nothing about your traditions I’ll be off to scour the web for more information as to what this ancient celebration is all about.
    Happy Holi!
